When I start with a new athlete 1 of the 1st things I teach and explain is how important balance and stabilization is. Thoughts?

Smart. An athlete needs to know that balance and stabilization is important for programing.

In my opinion you should start with flexibility/mobility, move on to core stabilization, and integrate balance training into their strength program. A strong core is a prequisite for single leg stability, and it also gives the athlete a stronger foundation to generate more power. And all athletes desire more power. At the same time, if you're not already doing this, put a little more emphasis on mobility training. Being an athlete is completely intertwined with said individual's ability to move. If you can't move- you're not athletic.

I find that balance and stabilization are key to improving skill development, no matter what sport the athlete is pursuing.
